Celebrating 30 Years of Eringold Milk Replacers – A Family Tradition of Quality, Consistency and Care

This year, Eringold proudly celebrates 30 years in business — three decades of dedication to quality, innovation and service in calf nutrition. What began as a small family venture in County Armagh has grown into one of Ireland and the UK’s most trusted names in milk replacers, supporting farmers across both regions with reliable, high-performance products.

Where It All Began

It was springtime 1995 when Stuart Cowan from Hampshire, recently retired as Raw Material Controller for BOCM Silcock UK, was asked by Mr. Gilsinen, then owner of Schils BV Netherlands, to pioneer sales of milk powder in Ireland.

At that time, Robert and Marion Mollan were running a small grocery and animal feed store outside Keady, County Armagh. Robert, also a dairy farmer with a keen interest in calf rearing, was intrigued when Stuart introduced him to the Schils range of calf milk powders.

In April 1995, Robert took delivery of his first two pallets of Novilac W Calf Milk Replacer and introduced it to his newborn calves. From the moment he used it, he noticed something different — it mixed easily, had a creamy aroma, and produced outstanding results. Calves grew faster, consumed more concentrates, and showed healthier coats with fewer digestive issues.

Word Spread Quickly

Encouraged by the results on his own farm, Robert began stocking and selling Novilac W to local farmers in County Armagh. Word of mouth soon took over. As more farmers saw impressive improvements in their calves, demand began to grow — not just locally, but from further afield.

By May 1995, local merchants such as John Woods Madden, John Bell Keady, and SAFE Fuels Keady began stocking the product. What started as two pallets quickly turned into a movement that was transforming calf rearing standards across the region.

Taking the Show on the Road

Seeing the potential, Robert and Marion decided to test the market further. They purchased a caravan and began attending county shows across Northern Ireland, starting with Ballymena in May 1995.

These shows became the foundation of long-lasting relationships with farmers and merchants — many formed over a friendly cup of tea and a scone. As demand grew across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, the Eringold brand was officially born — combining the proven performance of Novilac W with new, locally focused formulations designed for UK and Irish farming systems.

Building the Eringold Range

From the beginning, Eringold’s goal was simple: to give farmers reliable, high-quality milk replacers that deliver consistent results.

The first products, Eringold Super and Eringold Extra, were quickly followed by Eringold OXI, developed to help tackle on-farm respiratory challenges.

Complementing this, Novilam Lamb Milk Replacer became a trusted choice for rearing lambs and goats, now used widely across Ireland and the UK.

In 1996, Robert met William Twomey of Inform Nutrition, Cork, whose passion for calf health and product quality perfectly aligned with Eringold’s philosophy. This partnership allowed Eringold to offer a wider range of complementary calf health products — including Calf Aid Paste, Calf Booster, Milkshake Power Colostrum, and Encrypt — all designed to support stronger, healthier calves.

A New Generation, The Same Values

In 2015, Robert and Marion’s son Christopher joined the business, bringing renewed energy and innovation. Having grown up on the family dairy farm, Chris shared his father’s deep passion for calf rearing. He has since played a key role in expanding the business into new markets across the Republic of Ireland and Scotland, while continuing to build strong relationships with farmers and merchants.

Today, under the joint leadership of Robert and Chris, Eringold continues to combine family values, proven products, and farmer-first service — a formula that has stood the test of time.
